House Plans Daily News

Study sets are offered for most of house plans. What is included with this varies depending on the designer that it is. A picture of the floor plan and elevations are usually included but they will not have all of the dimensions that a full set of blueprints has. It is usually enough to determine if this is a house you can live with and a builder should be able to give you a rough cost to build from these too. A builder can usually estimate cost to build based on the square footage, how many stories it is and by looking at the elevations. If more info is needed you will have to order a complete set of plans at the full price. If you order a study set the fee is credited back towards your complete sets. For more information on this feel free to call 800-250-4505 or email sherry@buildingplans.com.

To find out what foundation type is available for a particular plan please check the general specifications in the light blue block of our pricing page for the particular plan you are viewing. Do not go by the price in the shopping cart section. If a plan is already drawn with a particular foundation it is no extra charge but if the alternate foundation has to be drawn there is a fee to do this and it depends on who the designer is on how much it will cost. If you have any questions or concerns on this feel free to call 800-250-4505 or scroll down below the elevations and floor plans of the plan you like and you will see the link to click on to "ask the designer a question". This will automatically email the designer of that plan with any questions you may have.

Study sets can be purchased for most of our designers house plans. The cost can vary from $75 to hundreds of dollars. This fee is usually credited towards your purchase of complete sets but not always. Please check with us before purchasing a study set to see if you would receive a credit towards your final purchase. Study sets are intended to help you study the plan in more detail to see if the plan is suitable for you. Because there is a fee involved you should be pretty sure this is the home you are going to build because you receive a credit towards sets of that plan, not another plan. Floor plans and front, side and rear elevations with dimensions are usually included in this purchase but it does depend on what the designer has available for a particular plan. You are not permitted to build a home from a study set and you cannot have someone reproduce the plan from a study set. These study sets are often stamped "not for construction" but even without this stamp you cannot build the house from these. If you decide you want to build the house that you purchased the study set for, you must come back and purchase complete sets of the plan or Reproducible sets or CAD for that plan.

Just a note about Reproducible sets or Reproducible Vellum: Reproducible sets are sets of plans that are printed on a type of paper that copies can easily be made from. You can also have a local designer of your choice make modifications from the Reproducible sets or vellum because this is also an erasable type of paper. Sections of the house can be erased to be modified without having to redraw the entire house. This can save a lot of time and money! It is the same for CAD files. Copies can be made and modifications can be done to the plans. The word Reproducible in no way means that the house can be reproduced more than once. When you purchase plans of any kind they can be built only once unless you work out something before your purchase with the designer which usually means you would pay an extra fee to do so. Reproducible sets or vellums and also CAD files do cost a good deal more than standard set packages too because you are given permission to make as many copies as you need and you can make modifications to the design.
